Birth is a very moving experience that affects everyone present. I will stay with you during your labor and birth, remaining with you and baby for at least two hours after delivery making sure that both you and your baby are stable. Observing the mother’s fundal firmness, lochia (bleeding) is normal, that the infant and mother have a normal temperatures, the mother has urinated and the baby has attempted to nurse.

I will make a home visit at 24-36 hours after delivery to evaluate the condition of the mother and the infant and to do the Metabolic Newborn Screening test on the baby. The 3rd day a phone call or home visit if necessary, and a visit at one week after delivery for evaluation and to fill out the Birth Certificate. Whenever you feel ready to resume pre-birth activities (usually 4-6 weeks after delivery) you can call for a final postpartum check. A well baby check with your pediatrician is recommended within the first three days.

Post-Partum Infant Nursing Services

My role as an infant nurse is to help the family experience success. This is accomplished with quiet, reassuring support for all family members. I am experienced in providing care during the first days or weeks after childbirth. Going into the home and helping with breastfeeding, newborn care and instruction, mother care, offering resources and giving general family and household support. My as an infant nurse is to nurture the parents into their new roles. Assisting with whatever the parent's needs to best enjoy and care for their new baby.

Breastfeeding is a lost art that we are attempting to recapture in this country. Breast milk has the perfect balance of protein, carbohydrates, calories, and immunities conveniently available at the right temperature on demand. Making breastfeeding the most nutritious and healthiest way to feed your child. (Research proves that breastfeed children score significantly higher on IQ test.)

I will be available to encourage you trust your body's natural ability to nourish your infant. Teaching you about breastfeeding and helping you get started and overcome challenges that could arise. Also providing you with assistance in your transition back into the workplace while breastfeeding.

Sharing information about baby care by educating you in breastfeeding, baby care tips, demonstrating baby baths, swaddling techniques, advice on sleeping issues for mom and baby, and helping to putting your baby on a schedule that fits your family. Along with teaching siblings and partners about the new baby. Attending to the nighttime feeding schedule that the mother prefers and the morning schedule for the child or children. Insuring you receive proper nutrition by offering wholesome simple meals for the family. Keeping the work areas neat, and tend to the laundry as time permits.
