9 Months and Beyond
Sandra Tinnin, C.P.M.

Pregnancy and birth are normal, healthy events until proven otherwise. My role is to support the pregnant mothers while letting nature takes its course, by encouraging the moms to trust their own instincts and seek the information they need to make their own decisions about pregnancy, birth, and parenthood. I generally spend a lot of time with a woman during prenatal visits addressing her individual concerns and needs, and will stay with her as much as possible throughout labor.

Having your baby at home gives you and your partner control. You decide when to call the midwife and other participants that you want present at your birth. You and your partner decide how to labor and where to give birth. Encouraging you to listen to your body, assisting you to change physical positioning during labor such as walking around, showering or birth tub, rocking, or leaning on birthing ball (exercise ball) choosing the positions feels good to you while laboring and in birth. Also encouraging moms to eat and drink during labor. The use of a variety of holistic therapies are available to assist you during labor, delivery and immediately postpartum if you choose.

Several studies have shown that midwife-supervised births produce excellent outcomes with fewer medical interventions. The midwives' natural approach to the management of labor and delivery, which may reduce a woman's fear, pain, and anxiety during birth, reduces the need for epidurals, episiotomies, and cesarean sections for successful deliveries

Midwives are trained to recognize the signs of trouble in pregnancy and labor. In case of a complication and you must go to the hospital, I will go with you and will continue to support you throughout your labor.
